The levels
These are my Doom, Doom2, Quake and Quake 2 levels.
Quake Levels
Quake 2 Levels
Doom Levels
Doom 2 Levels
Levels by Pavel Shangin. A Russian mapper who got into contact with me after playing my levels, and subsequently asked me to playtest and try levels he decided to make. I don’t believe he ever distributed them, but they are linked below.
Pavel Shangins Quake 2 Levels
I used to have a GeoCities site, which I’ve kept for posterity. This was where I had my Doom, Quake and Quake 2 levels. It doesn’t have them all, and the design is a bit ’naff, but if you want to see what amateur 90’s era site building looked like, but all means, check it out. The download links won’t work.
Quake Levels
Lords of Chaos
After a long hiatus, I’ve gone back and created another Quake level. The previous Quake levels I made were very much in the 1996-97 style of level making. This is an attempt at making a more modern Quake experience, and what I would consider my best Quake level, and perhaps my best level ever.
If you’re only going to try one of my Quake levels, make it this one.
This is a large level. Within a twisted mansion there are seven Chaos Lords which hold the key to your escape. Summon each of the Chaos Lords and destroy them.
You will need to pay attention to your surroundings and make note of barriers and the messages in the game.
This level uses DumptruckDS’s excellent “ progs_dump ” mod. This mod really completes Quake, adding many things which I feel are almost indispensable now. Dead bodies, being able to put any model anywhere as decoration, additional environmental effects and much more.
I wanted this level to have a dark, Gothic feel. It may have been subconsciously influenced by others levels, but I wanted a lush black and red aesthetic, something demonic, metal, hellish, disturbing… A level which will creep the player out with small set pieces and a few “What the Hell?” moments.
This level did turn out larger than I had initially thought. Each time I thought I was done I kept thinking the level was still small, and ideas came thick and fast. In retrospect, it should have been done as two or three levels.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the level. Set aside some time to play during the night, turn the lights down, and immerse yourself in the Lords of Chaos.
If you want to see how this level is completed, you can download a demo of me playing it .
Astrus Base
Astrus is one of the seven holding places for lost souls. It has been taken by demons however and the souls that have inhabited it have gone to earth to reside and escape, causing chaos. You must go back in and retake Astrus so the souls of those that used to live there can return.
The Borax Factor
A simple military base style level. Make sure you look around carefully in this level. It’s not a case of hunt the pixel, but you may not be able to find essential buttons or weapons of you rush without checking the area out.
Borax 3
Although I billed this as a unique level when I released it, it does have that Episode 4 Elder World vibe to it. It is a mansion, with paintings on the wall, furniture and a graveyard outside with plenty of zombie gibbin’ action. It plays as both as a single player and deathmatch, but it was designed mainly for single player.
Med Labs
The first Quake level I ever made. A mixture of styles, metal, base and keep. It’s kind of fun, but it is a first level attempt, made on a computer which struggled to run the map editor.
Dens Haus (Deathmatch 2-6 players)
An early attempt at mapping, more experimental and not thoroughly tested. There was some corruption of the data files when making this map, so it is a bit janky. I was learning the editor. This is designed for smaller deathmatch games. I would recommend playing Dens Haus 2 and Dens Haus 3 over this.
Dens Haus 2 (Deathmatch 2-4 players)
Deathmatch level for smaller games. This takes place in a medieval style chapel. I built this for one on one games with friends.
Dens Haus 3 (Deathmatch 2-4 players)
Deathmatch level for smaller games. This level has an egyptian theme to it. I built this for one on one games with friends.
Quake 2 Levels
Star City (Deathmatch)
A deathmatch level for Quake 2. Spacey and with platforms and a bit of verticality. Star City is within a large walled off arena, a glitzy Strogg hangout. But the Strogg aren’t here, you are. You and your deathmatch opponents are here though, navigating the suspended walkways and sniping from rooftops.
The upper areas have good weapons, but the health and ammo is down low. Jumping and navigation is important here, as you can slide from walkway to walkway.
Was designed for 2-6 players.
The Ulysses Project
It is a multi level unit consisting of 4 large levels and 1 smaller one. See the Story section for details. You must carry out a mission to diminish the strength of the Strogg resistance. Please read the story section. It’s long but contains important info about how to play the game. It will also enhance the playing experience of you know exactly what is going on.
Each level follows a different Quake 2 style.
Borax II
My first Quake 2 level done in a military base style. There is a little bit of gaudy coloured lighting, because at the time I didn’t have a 3D card and couldn’t see what it would look like with coloured lighting. Nevertheless, it is an enjoyable play.
Heavy Industry
This level got the 3D Gamers Edge seal of approval award back at the time of release in 1998. It is a miltary base style level, with imposing architecture and heavy machinery!
Home of Duelling Evil (Deathmatch)
A deathmatch level, intended for deathmatch games of 2-4 players. This is a “fun” level, in the sense that it has all the weapons, generous powerups. This is a level to play with your friend when you just want to have fun blasting at each other.
Download Home of Duelling Evil
Orbital Fortitude
A level that takes place on a moon base. I think this is the best Quake 2 level I made, in terms of visuals and gameplay.
Dens Palace
A unique Quake II level that sometimes resembles the Palace levels. However, as you will discover, that this is more like a luxurious hotel.
This level also features a swimming pool, bar and even a disco, complete with music and disco lighting! The level is quite colourful, but I dont think that I overdid it.
Doom 2 Levels
DK Shrine (Remastered)
About
DK Shrine Remastered is an “old school” Doom II WAD, based on levels made in 1994-1995. As a result, it has a layout and gameplay style familiar to people who played levels coming out in that era, but with a fresh and appealing visual style.
People looking for a WAD with more modern gameplay elements and style may be dissapointed, but those who did enjoy the more abstract, iD like levels which were around during DooMs heyday should find something to enjoy.
This WAD is basically my original “The Shrine” WAD with significant cosmetic, design and gameplay changes.

DK Shrine 2 (Original)
This is the original DK Shrine (sort of), that was made in the mid 90s. This is the level set that DK Shrine Remastered was based on, but has an additional 10 levels which didn’t make it to the remastered version.
I would recommend playing DK Shrine Remastered instead of this version, but do give this a try, and start at level 12, pistol start.
Also available, is the DK Shrine version 1. This is basically the first 11 levels of DK Shrine 2. It was never released on the Internet, just a few BBS. This I made in 1995. It’s here just for archival purposes.
Doom Levels
Decimator
This exist because I wanted to scratch an itch. I’ve made many Doom 2 levels, but never really felt I made a proper DooM level. What do I mean? Doom has a different feel to Doom 2’s earthy design and I wanted to make levels that were distintly Doom like, in particular, like those in Episode 2, which is my favourite Doom episode.
These are levels for vanilla doom, so should work on any doom engine, even the original DOS, though a limit removing enging is strongly recommended.
As mentioned, these were deliberately made to be reminiscient of Doom’s Episode 2, The Shores of Hell. Originally planned to be an entire episode, I stopped after the 4th level.
Run this with your favourite Doom source port, and start a new game selecting The Shores of Hell.
Borax 4
Basically a large base type level with some plodding music. This level is large (but not insanely hard) You find yourself in a secondary military base, some distance from the other, ill fated base. The level starts of somewhat typical, but someway through, the HORDES come, and you’ll be running for your life, hunted, chased by the demonic throng that has come to seal you in.
This level takes advantages of some of the Boom extension, so needs a Boom compatible source port to play. I think most source ports should work fine.
It is located deep in the gray, foggy mountain range. You have to escape and ascend a nearby mountain.
Den Doom
These are the very first levels I made. Not that great, but I decided to put them on my site. This is a 3 level Doom wad that is exclusive to this site. It is not available elsewhere. I decided that they probably not worth uploading, but then again you may still find it fun if you enjoy amateur levels from 1995 made by a teenager.
The Word of Бога
“And lo, behold, for his feet moveth fast and his plasma gun runneth hot. He shall smite his enemies where they stand, and when they arise again, shall smack them back down. For he is the bringer of death, the angel of destruction that fears no one, and they shall say unto thee, verily, a hero walks amongst us. He is to be feared”
